NEW! After Hours Library Enquiry Service

Ever had one of those burning library questions when you’re sat in the library in the early hours of the morning but all the library staff have gone home?! Well, the Library’s NEW After Hours Library Enquiry Service is just what you need!

You can chat to a librarian and get the answers to your library questions, whatever the time.

Anything we can help you with…?

Starting University, or even just returning after a summer off, can be daunting and you might be thinking “This thing looks simple enough to do, but I don’t know/can’t remember how…”

Not to worry!

Library staff are always ready, able and willing to help – even when we don’t know the answer ourselves, we’ll direct you as best we can to those in the know. Find them on the second floor of the Gateway Building and the first floor of Uxbridge.

Prefer to figure things out yourself or use an online guide? We have those too! Once you get to know Blackboard a little more you’ll find a plethora of information on the Library page. Such as how to guides on using the online library, links to your subject librarian and their contact details, and links to a referencing guide (something that still scares me and I’m a proper grown up librarian!).

Any questions just ask in person, email us ( call (01494 605 107) or tweet (@buckslib) – someone at the end of the line or in front of you will be happy to help 🙂

Goodbye David!

Friday 20th May at 11am marks an end of an era as the Library Team bid a fond farewell to our Library Assistant, David Taplin. He has worked at Bucks for the past 17 years. A life(time, sentence) I hear you cry!

David3                   David2                           ask a barbarian                       Wedding1

He’s the helpful face at the Library service desk and a great team member, whose grumpiness has cheered us along many a time. He was our wise Librarian in BucksBiblio imparting useful nuggets of library information. And if you were really lucky, you may have come across him on our virtual help service, Ask a Barbarian, sorry Librarian, as the fierce Viking warrior. All in all, such a good sport as he even invited the Library badger to his wedding. Bruce had a fantastic day too!

David, you’ll be very much missed and, from us all in the Library Team, we wish you well. May you enjoy a long and happy future out West.

Friday 22 May – Ask a Librarian and Service Desk at High Wycombe

Due to staff training, there’s no Ask a Librarian service on Friday 22 May 10am to 2pm. The Service Desk in the Library at High Wycombe will also be closed at this time. However, if you need assistance before staff return from their training, please contact or phone Uxbridge Library on 01494 605 137. Many apologies for any inconvenience.

Graduation – some things you need to know

Where did the last year go?! Apparently it’s that time again and we’re preparing to say goodbye and wish our students good luck on their way into the world of being a post-graduate.

There are a few things you need to know if you are preparing to leave us, important if you want to receive your certificate when you walk across that stage!

Firstly – do you still have books or any other item on your library record? We need those back please!

Second – have you got a fine that needs paying? In order to get your certificate you will need to clear all bills with the University, which includes any library fines you may have gotten over your time at Bucks. You can pay in person at either library or online through epayments.

And that is that. Once you have returned your books, paid your fines, handed in your final assignment or sat your final exam you are officially able to graduate from Bucks.

We hope you had a great time here, perhaps we’ll see you again the future!
